Supermarkets and food allergies / food intolerance
As if food allergies and intolerance weren’t hard enough – supermarkets don’t make it any easier for us! The same ‘free from’ product in different supermarkets contain different ingredients. I can’t stress enough how important it is to always check the labeling.
If I take jam tarts as an example: Sainsbury’s is the only place I have found that make them wheat, gluten, dairy and egg free. Other supermarkets contain egg, which would not be suitable for my daughter.
There are many products like this which means I find myself travelling to several supermarkets to get the right food I need for my children. Natural food shops and Holland and Barrett’s are also great for products you can’t get in supermarkets.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could find everything we needed under one roof! On a weekly basis I have to go to three different supermarkets and every couple of weeks to the Natural Food shop. To be honest I don’t know where I find the time.
I think it’s definitely time that the big supermarkets take note and start supplying for a wider range of allergy and intolerance sufferers.Tags: Food Allergies, Food Freedom, Food Intolerance
